Products, culture and handicrafts of 17 states will be available at more than 500 stalls in Bihar Saras Mela.

Preparations for Bihar Saras Fair are almost complete. A confluence of culture, tradition, food and folk art will be seen in this fair to be held at Gandhi Maidan from 15 to 29 December. Entrepreneurs and craftsmen associated with self-help groups from 17 states including Bihar will participate in this fair. Jeevika Didis associated with 180 self-help groups from 38 districts of Bihar will also be present in this fair. Various programs will be organized in the fair. Saras Mela is being organized by Bihar Rural Livelihood Promotion Committee (JEEVIKA), Bihar under the aegis of Rural Development Department. Women craftsmen and entrepreneurs from different parts of the country come to the fair, who along with buying and selling products and dishes made in local style, will also present the folk art and culture of their state. The main objective of Saras Fair is to promote rural crafts and skills. Entry into the fair is free. The fair will run from 10 am to 8 pm.

Entrepreneurs have come from these states

Apart from Bihar, in this Saras Mela to be organized at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Kerala, Ladakh, Maharashtra, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Assam, Delhi, West Bengal and Manipur. The participants are taking part. In this fair, women entrepreneurs and self-employed of the support group have set up stalls of their products, dishes and crafts.

Various cultural programs will be presented

There will be display and sale of crafts, skills and folk art at more than 500 stalls in the Saras Fair. Along with this, street drama will also be organized for awareness. Seminars and discussions on contemporary issues will also be organized here in the presence of subject experts every day. Many captivating presentations including folk songs, folk dances, ghazals, poetry recitations will be given by famous artists every day on the main cultural stage.

how many stalls for whom

More than 500 stalls have been set up in the Saras Mela, out of which about 180 stalls are for self-help groups of the districts of Bihar. About 75 stalls have been set up for self-help groups coming from other states. About 50 stalls have been set up for the self-employed of Bihar. About 88 stalls have been set up for self-employment from other states. About 40 food stalls have been set up. About 45 stalls have been set up for banks and various departments.

Corporation will make Saras Mela a zero waste event

Patna Municipal Corporation is preparing to make Saras Fair a zero waste event. In this, the corporation will try to dispose of the waste generated from the fair within the fair premises itself. For this, the corporation’s team will collect dry waste every day at the fair and send it for processing so that it can be reused. The corporation will set up a processing plant for wet waste in the fair complex itself. So that the waste can be processed during the fair itself. Patna Municipal Corporation has made these preparations for Swachh Survekshan 2023. Along with this, the people coming to the fair will be made aware about waste management by the corporation employees.

Entry of people on foot will be done from Gate 4 in Gandhi Maidan, Gate 05 and 10 for those coming by vehicle.

People coming to Saras Mela on foot will enter from Gate 04 of Gandhi Maidan. People coming by vehicle will enter from gate number 05 and 10. The Civil Surgeon has instructed to keep the medical team deployed in two shifts. Each team will have a doctor, para medical staff and ambulance. The entire fair will be monitored from the control room. Along with this, DM Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh has instructed the City Executive Officer to ensure regular cleanliness of the entire complex. There will be good facilities for toilets and drinking water. Water tanker and water ATM have also been installed.
