Preparing to make electricity expensive again, JBVNL proposed Rs 9.50 per unit

Domestic consumers may be shocked by the tariff proposal of Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) for the financial year 204-25. The corporation has proposed an increase of Rs 2.85 from the current rate of Rs 6.65 per unit.

New electricity tariff has started from March 1st.

If it is approved, the per unit rate will increase to Rs 9.50. At the same time, the corporation has also proposed a huge increase in fixed charges. It is noteworthy that Jharkhand Electricity Regulatory Commission had announced electricity tariff for the financial year 2023-24 in February this year, which has come into effect from March 1.

Hearing on new tariff may be held in June

Now the Commission will hear the tariff for the financial year 2024-25, the announcement of which is possible in June. While issuing the tariff proposal, the corporation has sought objections from the public. People can give their objection through website or e-mail. Apart from this, the Secretary can also register his objection with the Jharkhand State Electricity Regulatory Commission through a letter.

The Commission had rejected the proposal to charge fixed charges on the basis of load.

This time JBVNL has proposed to make fixed charges on the basis of load. This was the old system, which has been abolished. According to the current system, if a consumer has a load of four kilowatts in his house, then he has to pay only Rs 100 per month.

…then you will have to pay fixed charge of Rs 400

If fixed charge is levied on the basis of load as per the tariff proposal, then the same consumer will have to pay approximately Rs 400 per month. However, in the previous tariff, the Commission had rejected the proposal of charging fixed charge on the basis of load.

JBVNL will buy electricity worth eight thousand crores

In the tariff proposal given by JBVNL, it has been said that electricity worth Rs 5460.55 crore is being purchased and supplied in the financial year 2023-24. But electricity worth Rs 7905 crore will be purchased in the financial year 2024-25. At the same time, including other expenses, a total of Rs 10502.16 crore will be required.
