Patna. Now the Postal Department of the Central Government will take up the responsibility of delivering letters (posts) to the offices and police stations of Bihar Police. With this, Bihar Police will save about Rs 60 crore annually, while about one thousand constables (manpower) engaged in this work can be separated from it and used in law and order etc.

Agreement signed with postal department

Bihar Police Headquarters ADG Jitendra Singh Gangwar told in the regular briefing on Monday that the Police Headquarters has decided to hand over the responsibility of mail delivery to the Postal Department. For this, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed between the Central Postal Department and the Police Headquarters within a week. He said that on a trial basis, police mail will be distributed through the postal department from 21 November 2023 to 31 March 2024. After this, it will be reviewed in detail and improvement measures will be taken as per requirement.

Ban on sending unnecessary copies

ADG Headquarters said that officials of the districts have been instructed to use e-mail for general correspondence. Sending unnecessary copies has also been banned. Sending letters through e-mail will not only save time but will also reduce the amount spent. If correspondence is done through official e-mail, the confidentiality of the letter will also be maintained.

5 crores spent on postage every month, 60 crores annually

He told that about one thousand constables do the work of internal mail distribution between 1066 police stations of the state and 104 offices related to the police department. If the average salary of a constable is Rs 50 thousand, then Rs 5 crore per month and Rs 60 crore are spent annually on mail delivery. Apart from this, traveling allowance is also given for postal delivery.

Only Rs 75 lakh will be spent as compared to Rs 60 crore.

About 2.50 lakh posts are distributed every year. An amount of Rs 30 will be charged per post by the postal department. If these are sent through the postal department, it will cost only about Rs 75 lakh. Even if it is assumed that around Rs 1 crore will be spent, this amount is still very less in comparison to Rs 60 crore.

15 to 35 rupees spent on postage up to 50 grams

If there is an agreement with the postal department, mail up to 50 grams will be delivered locally at Rs 15, while up to 2000 km will be delivered at Rs 35. At the same time, for every post from 201 grams to 500 grams and beyond 500 grams, different postage charges are fixed according to kilometer. In this the minimum is fixed from Rs 10 to Rs 90.
