Pitru Paksha 2023: Shraddha rituals are performed in Pitru Paksha for the peace of the ancestors’ souls. This is known as Pitru Paksha. Pinda Daan and Tarpan are done for the peace of our ancestors. Pitru Paksha lasts for 16 days.

The person also gets freedom from many types of problems. In the absence of Shraddha, the soul does not attain complete liberation. Purnima Shraddha and Pratipada Shraddha will also be performed on the first day of Pitru Paksha.

According to mythological Hindu beliefs, remembering their ancestors and performing proper worship rituals during Pitru Paksha makes them happy and this removes many obstacles from the life of the people. Usually it connects three components together. First is Pinddan, second is Tarpan and third is feeding Brahmin (Brahmin Bhoj). Along with this, reading the holy scriptures is also considered auspicious during this time.

Donation of silver – It is said in the scriptures that donating silver during Pitru Paksha gives auspicious results. It is believed that on the date on which you are performing Shraddha, you should donate a silver item to a Brahmin. If you are not able to donate on that day, you can donate any silver item to a Brahmin on Sarva Pitru Amavasya. Silver is related to the planet Moon. Therefore, by donating silver, Chandradev’s blessings are showered.

Black sesame seeds must be donated during Pitru Paksha. It is believed that during Shraddha Paksha, a person who is unable to feed food to a Brahmin or a poor person should donate a handful of black sesame seeds while meditating on his ancestors.
