Barhiya city of Bihar situated on the banks of river Ganga is known for the sweetness of its delicious sweets in the lives of people since decades. Although Kolkata’s Rasgulla is famous all over the world, but Barhiya’s Rasgulla is also very famous for its excellent taste.
This small town of Lakhisarai district of Bihar is also known as the city of Rasgulla. Generally, all types of rasgulla are prepared in Badhiya, but among all of them the rasgulla named Atom Bomb is very famous. The size of this rasgulla is such that no common man can gather courage to eat another after eating one. The taste is so pure that you feel like eating it.
Rasgullas of Barhiya are prepared with pure chhena, thin sugar syrup and without flour. Apart from this, other types of sweets are also made. For example, Rasgulla drenched in jaggery syrup, Rasmalai, Black Jamun, Cream Chop Sweets etc.
Here milk is brought from Diyara or nearby areas to make Rasgulla. The rasgullas here are very light. The reason behind this is that here the chhena extracted from the milk is thoroughly whipped by the artisans. Due to this it becomes very light and soft. It is made with thin sugar syrup and without flour, which makes it more delicious.
There are more than 50 Rasgulla shops in Badhiya, where about one to two quintals of sweets are sold every day. Artisans and laborers are also employed to make it. About 20 to 25 people work in a shop here.
The demand for Badhiya’s Rasgullas increases a lot during big events or weddings. During this time people take Rasgulla on order from here. Apart from different districts of the state, orders for Rasgullas come here from other states as well.
