In Valsad, Gujarat, success was achieved in building the first mountain tunnel out of the seven to be built on the route of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor i.e. Bullet Train Project. This success was achieved in a period of 10 months. National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has given this information.

An official said contracts have been awarded for the other six mountain tunnels, while excavation work has started for the undersea tunnel to connect Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai with Shilphata in Thane district.

NHSRCL said in a statement that the tunnel has been constructed in 10 months using ‘New Austrian Tunnel Method’ (NATM), which is about one kilometer away from Jaroli village in Umbergaon taluka of Valsad in Gujarat.

He said, “It has other related structures like tunnel, tunnel gate, tunnel entry canopy. This 350 meter long tunnel has a diameter of 12.6 meters and height of 10.25 meters. This horseshoe shaped tunnel will have two high speed train tracks.”

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor will have seven tunnels passing through the mountains and all of them will be constructed through NATM.

This high-speed train corridor will also have a 21 kilometer long tunnel between Bandra-Kurla Complex in Mumbai and Shilphata in Thane district, seven kilometers of which will be in Thane Creek, i.e. the first tunnel in the country to pass under the sea. Will happen.

Officials said the six mountain tunnels for which contracts have been awarded are in Kasabekaman, Chandrapada, Chandsar, Mithagar, Vasantwadi and Ambesari in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, about 100 km from Mumbai.

The total cost of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor project is estimated at Rs 1.08 lakh crore.
