On the occasion of Kartik Purnima Snan festival in Prayagraj, UP, a large number of devotees took a holy dip in Ganga and Yamuna including Sangam. The process of bathing and donating had started early on Monday morning.
At Sangam, lakhs of devotees took a dip in the confluence of Ganga-Yamuna and invisible Saraswati and earned virtuous benefits. After this, Aarti of Mother Ganga was performed by donating lamps. Extensive arrangements were made for security at the ghat.
Along with the police force, women policemen were also put on duty. Devotees took bath at the Sangam including Balua Ghat, Kashiraj Ghat, Nagvasuki, Ramghat, Kali Ghat, Saraswati Ghat, Kila Ghat, VIP Ghat, Mahavir Ghat, Shringverpur, Phaphamau, Nawabganj, Jhunsi across the Ganga, besides Naini, Arail etc. ghats across the Yamuna. After bathing, the devotees worshiped Shri Bade Hanumanji situated on the banks of Sangam. There was a long queue of devotees for darshan. Along with Bhandara, other rituals including Sunderkand and Akhand Ramayana Sri Harikirtan are going on in the temple premises.
After the darshan puja, the devotees took the prasad. Apart from this, devotees worshiped in other temples including Lord Shiva, Ramjanaki. Apart from the Ramjanaki temple located at Ramghat, devotees visited Kali temple etc.
Bathing on the full moon day of Kartik month is said to have special significance. It is mentioned in the scriptures that bathing in the Ganga on this day gives the same results as bathing in the Ganga throughout the year. Taking bath in Ganga, Yamuna or other rivers on the day of Kartik Purnima gives special virtuous benefits.
