Kolkata, Manoranjan Singh: The DD department of Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate and the police of Laketown police station jointly conducted a campaign and seized firecrackers loaded with trucks on the basis of secret information. A total of four tonnes of illegal firecrackers have been seized.
Three people have been arrested. According to the police, the names of the three arrested are Ibrahim Khalil alias Bablu (39), Dildar Hussain (22) and Nuran Mollah.
Ibrahim and Dildar are residents of Barpeta district of Assam. Nuran is a resident of Champahati of Baruipur. On Monday, based on secret information, DD department and Laketown police together stopped a truck on VIP Road of Laketown police station.
When the truck was searched, 45 cartoon boxes containing pop crackers (potato crackers) and 65 cartoon boxes containing chocolate bombs were recovered.
Police say that a case has been registered against the arrested accused under various sections. The three arrested are being interrogated.
The police is finding out where the illegal firecrackers were being taken on such a large scale, the police is also finding out the people involved in the illegal firecracker business.
It should be known that special checking is being done at various places in the metropolis as well as in the surrounding districts regarding Diwali and Kali Puja.
The total weight of the seized illegal firecrackers is said to be around four tonnes.
