PHOTOS: Heavy rains wreak havoc in Jharkhand, crops worth lakhs destroyed, many houses collapsed, damage survey being conducted.

Many trees in the area were uprooted due to the rain. Due to this many electric poles fell. 84 mm rainfall has been recorded in the last two days, which is the record of highest rainfall within two days this year. The block administration is conducting a survey regarding the damage caused by rain. It is said that the rain that continued since Saturday evening continued throughout the day on Sunday. The rain stopped early in the morning on Monday. After the rain stopped, the devastation caused by the rain started coming to light.

Due to rain, Sandhya Devi, Urmila Devi, late Nageshwar Sahu in Dhobi Tola of Kudu Panchayat of the block, Sohrai Oraon, Manoj Oraon in Kundon Pipratoli of Tati Panchayat, apart from this, three houses in Salgi Panchayat, two in Badki Champi Panchayat, two in Chiri Panchayat, Kakargarh Panchayat. Four houses in Jingi Panchayat including three in other Panchayats have been demolished.

Due to rain, a tree standing at the main gate of the block cum zonal office complex fell. Due to this the boundary wall of the block cum zonal office complex was demolished. Along with this, four electric poles were also uprooted from the ground and fell. The electric wire broke. Due to this, power supply was disrupted for about an hour. Due to rain there has been huge damage to the vegetables grown in the fields. Potatoes, tomatoes, cauliflower, cabbage, coriander leaves, chillies, peas, various types of greens, parsnips, capsicum, brinjal and okra grown in the fields have suffered huge losses. While the seeds of potatoes and peas have rotted, tomatoes, coriander leaves and greens have been ruined in the fields.

Due to continuous rains, various rivers like Tiko River, South Koel River, Safi River, Jariyo River, Banduwa River are in spate, while the water level of ponds and wells has increased. Overall, two days of rain has become a disaster. The homes of farmers and villagers have been snatched away.

BDO Manoranjan Kumar said that a survey of the damage caused by rain is being conducted. Orders have been given to the head, secretary and other personnel of the concerned Panchayat to provide shelter for the homeless families in a nearby government building. There is no news of any loss of life or property due to rain. As per the need, grains and other essential items are being provided to the affected families.
