Maa Durga was bid farewell with chants of Aabar Esho Maa.. According to Kolkata Municipal Corporation sources, the phase of Durga idol immersion which started from Tuesday will continue till next Friday.
Municipal Corporation, Kolkata Police and Shyama Prasad Mukhopadhyay Port Authority have jointly started their preparations from Monday night itself. Special security arrangements have been made at Dahighat, Babughat, Ahiritola Ghat, Kumhartoli, Bajkadmatla Ghat of Khidirpur.
Statistics of the last few years say that maximum number of idols have been immersed at these ghats.
Kolkata Municipal Corporation Mayor Firhad Hakim had come to take stock of the situation at Babughat. According to Municipal Corporation sources, arrangements have been made for a crane to lift the structure of the statue from the Ganga ghats.
Security has been beefed up at every ghat of Ganga to ensure that no untoward incident takes place during these four days of immersion.
Apart from this, all strict steps are being taken to deal with the emergency situation. People coming to the ghats were seen bidding farewell to Maa Durga with tearful eyes.
