New Delhi : After months of spy shots and teasers, the second generation Skoda Kodiaq SUV has been officially unveiled ahead of its arrival in India in 2024. Its exterior has been re-developed, while the cabin is completely new. It is shared with the new generation Superb, which will be unveiled later this year.

skoda kodiak design

The global-spec Skoda Kodiaq sports the evolution design from the outgoing model, but the design of its longer and lower portions has been changed. It has grown by 61 mm from 4.69-metres to 4.75-metres, while the wheelbase and width remain the same at 2.71-metres and 1.8-metres respectively. No changes have been made in this. Some of the key exterior design highlights include a new edition of the Skoda grille, which now includes a connecting LED and new matrix LED headlamps. The rake of the D-pillar adds extra length to the profile. The wheel designs introduced are the same as the old model, while at the rear, Skoda has fitted the new Kodiaq with C-shaped tail lamps, an LED light bar and a prominent chin-like ridge just above the number plate slot. Overall, the Kodiaq has not lost any of its shape, but its attractiveness has increased thanks to the new design.

Skoda Kodiaq’s new cabin

Kodiaq will share its cabin with the new generation Superb. Now the minimalism philosophy will be visible due to the clean and clutter free layout. You get the same two-spoke steering wheel found in the Slavia and Kushaq, as well as dual digital displays, the infotainment system of which is a 13.0-inch unit, while the Virtual Cockpit is now a 10-inch unit behind the steering wheel. The new Kodiaq will be offered in both five-seat and seven-seat layouts like the earlier models, of which India will get the latter exclusively. The feature list has been expanded with things like ambient lighting, climate control, wireless charging and storage space. Skoda has also included a reverse camera, ADAS. For the first time, Skoda has used sustainable recycled materials including natural wool and polyester in the cabin instead of leather.

Engine and Specifications

The Skoda Kodiaq will be offered as a plug-in hybrid for the first time, where the battery offers a range of 100 km and you can also DC fast charge the pack. The new generation car, dubbed the Kodiaq iV, will arrive in India sometime after its local launch. In the Indian market, Kodiaq will generate 200 bhp power with 2.0-litre TSI petrol and 320 Nm torque, which will come with 7-speed DCT. This powertrain gets AWD as standard. The new Kodiaq now rides on a new edition of the MQB-EVO platform, which also underpins the recently launched new-gen Volkswagen Tiguan.

When will it be launched in India and with whom will it compete?

This new generation Kodiaq is expected to be launched in India next year in 2024 and like its predecessors, it will be produced at Skoda’s Aurangabad plant along with the next generation Skoda Octavia, Skoda Superb Volkswagen Tiguan and Tiguan AllSpace as well as the Toyota Fortuner and Will be assembled with cars like MG Gloster.
