Vegetables became expensive due to scorching heat

Due to the scorching heat in many states of the country, vegetables have dried up in the fields. There has been a lot of damage to the vegetable crop. Because of this the prices of vegetables are skyrocketing. This is to say of Rabindranath Kole, a senior member of the Task Force Marketing Committee of the state government. Mr. Kole told that within the coming 10-15 days the increased price of vegetables may come down. At the same time, to prevent black marketing, the task force is monitoring various markets of the metropolis. The members of the Task Force along with the Kolkata Police carry out operations in the markets. At present, not only in Bengal, but also in many states of the country, the price of vegetables has increased.

Tomato price increases every year before Sawan

The common man is upset seeing the way tomato prices have skyrocketed for the last few days. Tomato is going away in the food plate, because its effect is directly falling on the common man’s pocket. In the coming time, the price of tomatoes may increase further and this trend may continue till this month. Rabindranath Kole told about this that every year before monsoon, the price of tomato increases between June and July. The price starts decreasing from the month of August, because tomato is not cultivated in these two months. Due to lack of yield, the price of tomato increases.

Vegetables reaching Bengal from these states

Mr. Kole said that along with paddy, vegetables are also cultivated well in West Bengal. Baruipur, Diamond Harbor in South 24 Parganas district of the state as well as North 24 Parganas, East and West Burdwan, Purulia, Murshidabad and other districts have bumper production of vegetables. After this, vegetables are brought to Bengal from some other states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and many other states of South India. He told that green chillies are imported from Karnataka. Due to the low production of vegetables in Bengal, vegetables are procured from those states in large quantities.
