The Excise and Prohibition Department has set a target of selling liquor worth Rs 428 crore in March. Till March 26, sales of approximately Rs 351 crore have been made. The March target will be achieved if sales of Rs 77 crore are made in five days. If the target of liquor sales is achieved this month, there could be record liquor sales in March.

Sale of liquor above print rate

Ignoring the instructions of the department, liquor is still being sold in retail shops in the state at a higher rate than the prescribed rate. Even on the occasion of Holi, liquor was sold openly in shops at higher rates. An extra Rs 10 was charged on a small bottle, Rs 20 on a half bottle and up to Rs 30 on a big bottle. The responsibility of retail liquor sale in the state has been given to the placement agency. JSBCL provides liquor in bulk to the placement agency.

This year the target is Rs 2360 crore

A target of Rs 2360 crore revenue from liquor has been set in the state in the financial year 2023-24. By the end of February, approximately Rs 2100 crore revenue was received. The department claims that by the end of this month the revenue will be achieved as per the set target.
