Patna’s schools opened on the orders of the Education Department, but the children obeyed the DM, did not obey KK Pathak’s instructions.

Due to severe cold and cold wave in Patna DM Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh Had issued an order to close schools and coaching till class 8th till Tuesday. But the education department Additional Chief Secretary KK Pathak Raised questions on this decision of DM. After this, Director of Secondary Education Kanhaiya Prasad Srivastava, citing the order of Additional Chief Secretary of Education Department KK Pathak, ordered the District Education Officer of Patna to open the school. After which government schools opened on Tuesday. Teachers also reached school on time but the attendance of children was negligible.

Teachers accepted education department and children accepted DM’s order.

On Tuesday, there was activity in various government schools of the city, but children were missing. Following the orders of the Education Department, the teachers reached the school in severe cold. But the parents did not send their children to school following the DM’s order. When asked, the principals said that due to cold the attendance of children has been very low. The teachers present in the schools said that most of the parents have not sent their children to school following the DM’s order.

Now know how the situation was in the city’s schools?

  • Prem Ranjan, headmaster of the middle school located in Saidpur, said that the schools were opened but not a single child was present. All the eight teachers of the school were present on time. A parent got angry at the headmaster for opening the school on Tuesday because in such cold weather the DM has given instructions to close the school but you guys are opening the school as per your wish.

  • Only 8 children were present in the Boys Middle School located at Buddha Marg on Tuesday. A total of seven teachers were present in the school. School Principal Shashikant Sinha said that due to cold, parents are not in favor of sending their children to school.

  • Only 11 children were present in Srichandra Middle School located in Digha on Tuesday. Here also all 16 teachers of the school were present. School headmaster Shashibhushan Prasad Singh said that due to cold, parents are not in favor of sending their children to school.

  • Even in Girls Middle School, Bankipur, not a single girl student was present on Tuesday. However, 11 teachers were present in the school on time.

What did the parents say?

  • To protect against cold, schools should be kept closed for the time being. It is even colder in the morning. In such a situation, children may fall ill due to the opening of schools. -Manoj Mahato

  • It has been so cold that even parents are facing difficulty in coming out of their homes. In such a situation, it is not understood on what basis schools for small children are being opened. -Shambhu Ghosh

  • School should be opened only after the cold subsides. Children are not able to protect themselves properly from cold. In view of the cold, leave should be given for a few more days. -Ramnarayan Mehta

After the order of the Education Department, District Magistrate Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh said that the order to close schools and coaching till class 8 due to severe cold is judicial. This order was issued under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1973. Review or change of the order is possible by the High Court. The order cannot be reviewed by the Education Department. The Education Department official should have consulted the Law Department before issuing the letter.

DM said that schools and coaching classes up to eighth will remain closed on Tuesday. The order issued earlier will remain effective. In the order issued by the District Magistrate, it was said that the schools have been closed so that the health of the children is not affected due to extreme cold. He said that for violation of the above order, there is a provision to take punitive action under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code. There is a provision to punish with jail for six months or a fine of Rs 1,000 or both.
