Patna Nagar Nigam: Strike of Patna Municipal Corporation sanitation workers ends, agreement reached on these eight points

The strike of Patna Municipal Corporation employees, which was going on for the last 14 days, ended on Wednesday. Eight points were agreed upon in the long talks held on Monday and Tuesday between the representatives of the Municipal Corporation Administration and the Patna Municipal Corporation Joint Employees Coordination Committee. This was discussed by the striking workers throughout the day on Wednesday. After that, the decision to return to work was taken at 6 pm and the agreement was signed in the Mayor’s chamber at 8 pm and it was announced in a joint press conference.

After the agreement, the employee leaders expressed full support to the campaign to make the city garbage free. At the same time, the Municipal Commissioner claimed to completely clean the filth spread in the city within 48 hours and make the city the way it was before. In this, a team was deployed from Wednesday night itself and it was announced that the cleaning work would be carried out throughout the night. Mayor Sita Sahu, Municipal Commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar, Deputy Mayor Reshmi Kumari, Municipal Corporation Joint Staff Coordination Committee Chairman Chandra Prakash Singh etc. were present on the occasion.

There will be cleanliness drive in every ward

The Municipal Commissioner announced the organization of cleanliness drive in every ward. In this, sanitation workers of the wards, local councilors and officials will all eat together and make plans to make the city garbage free.

Laborers and officers will play in Patna Swachhta League

Patna Municipal Corporation will organize Patna Cleanliness League. It will be held in the court under the flyover near R Block. Five-six teams will participate in it, which will include teams of municipal corporation sanitation workers, public representatives, officers, journalists etc.

Agreement reached on these eight points

1. Instead of Rs 450 and Rs 500 per day, daily wage workers will now get Rs 500 and Rs 550 per day from October 2023. In this way their monthly salary will increase by Rs 1300.

2. There will be a proportionate increase in the remuneration of daily wage workers in April and October every year on the basis of Consumer Price Index.

3. The remuneration of the agency workers working in the Municipal Corporation will be paid directly into their bank accounts.

4. It was agreed to give weekly leave with payment to the daily wage workers. Its proposal will be passed by the meeting of the powerful standing committee and the corporation council and will be sent to the government for approval.

5.The action taken by the corporation administration from September 19 will be cancelled/reverted. Cases have been registered against some striking workers, but there will be no punitive action against those who are innocent.

6. The Municipal Corporation can take policy decisions regarding regularization only after the Supreme Court executes the petition regarding amendment or cancellation of the Municipal Act, 2007. At present this matter is related to the government. Therefore, the Employees Coordination Committee has asked to present its demands before him.

7. The proceedings of the talks held at the level of Municipal Commissioner on October 2 will be made available to the coordination committee.

8. A review meeting will be held within 15 days for the implementation of the points of the letter related to the agreement of February 8, 2020.
