Islamabad : Describing as impractical Imran Khan’s demand to dissolve the National Assembly by May 14 for a successful outcome of election-related talks, Pakistan’s ruling coalition has warned the former prime minister that his party PTI would suffer huge losses if the talks fail. Will happen, because there can be a delay of one year in the election. Ahead of Tuesday’s third round of talks between the federal coalition led by the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) (PML-N) and Imran Khan’s party PTI, the government told Khan that it could not hold talks at gunpoint.
Imran Khan wants a preferred solution
In the news of Dawn newspaper, PML-N General Secretary and Federal Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal has been quoted as saying that we want to tell Imran Khan that he cannot hold talks on the basis of gun. This is the first condition of the conversation, there should be no pre-condition. Khan is so desperate that he wants the preferred solution at all costs. Describing Khan’s ultimatum as ‘impractical’, it was said in the news on Monday that the federal coalition has asked him to adopt a more flexible approach for the success of this dialogue between the government and the opposition.
Loss to PTI more if talks fail
Federal Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal said on Sunday that if the talks fail, PTI will suffer the most as the constitution provides for postponing the elections by a year. Imran Khan has warned of law and order problems in the country (if elections are not held in July this year) and in such a scenario the elections will be postponed for another year.
How will the National Assembly be dissolved by May 14?
He said that the parties of the federal alliance sat with the PTI with an open mind, but Khan kept asking for the dissolution of the assemblies (National, Sindh and Balochistan) till May 14, while this demand is not acceptable to the federal alliance. He said that the people of Sindh and Balochistan cannot be punished for the stupidity of Imran Khan, who dissolved the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies to hold elections there under the protection of his own people.
Supreme Court’s decision is politically motivated
He said Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party would have to agree on the election code of conduct apart from holding the elections on the same day. When asked whether in the event of no breakthrough in the talks, elections would be held in Punjab in May in view of the Supreme Court’s order? The minister said that we clearly see the politics behind this decision of the apex court.
