Only 14 percent associate professors left in medical colleges of Bihar, 60 percent posts of teachers vacant

Patna. The government medical colleges and hospitals of the state are facing shortage of teachers. Only 14.47 percent associate professors are posted in 10 medical colleges of Bihar. 85.53 percent posts of Associate Professor are vacant. Not only this, at present 60 percent posts of regular teachers are vacant in government medical college hospitals. This includes the posts of Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor. The situation is that by the end of the year 2025, 80 percent of the posts of regular professors, associate professors and assistant professors in the state will become vacant.

Crisis on availability of doctors for 13 new medical college hospitals

This is the situation when the age of medical teachers has been increased from 58 years to 60 years, then to 62 years, 65 years and lastly to 67 years. There are so many vacant posts in 10 medical colleges of the state. The government is trying to enroll MBBS in 13 new medical college hospitals. For this there will be a crisis in the availability of doctors.

In Bihar, a total of 431 posts of professor have been sanctioned in Patna Medical College Hospital, Nalanda Medical College Hospital, SKMCH, Muzaffarpur, DMCH, ANMCH, Gaya, GMC Bettiah, BIMS, Pawapuri, Madhepura, JNKTMCH, GMC, Purnia and JLNMCH, Bhagalpur. . Of these, 236 posts of regular professors are vacant which is 45 percent.

85 percent posts of associate professor vacant

Similarly, 890 posts of Associate Professor have been sanctioned in these medical college hospitals. Against the sanctioned posts, 760 posts are vacant in 10 medical college hospitals. 85 percent posts of Associate Professor are lying vacant. Apart from this, 1630 posts of Assistant Professor are sanctioned. Out of these, at present only 628 posts are filled with regular professors while 980 posts are vacant.

Total 61 percent vacancies of Assistant Professor

A total of 61 percent of Assistant Professor posts are lying vacant. Even if the government tries to fill these vacant posts, the currently appointed Assistant Professor will be promoted to the post of Associate Professor only after six years of regular service and the Associate Professor will be promoted to the post of Professor only after six years of regular service. In such a situation, if the government appoints assistant professors on a large scale in the year 2024, then they will be made associate professors only in 2030.

Option to reinstate is open

However, in view of the shortage and qualification of doctors in medical college hospitals, the National Medical Commission has also notified the Qualification Regulation 2022 for teachers in medical college hospitals. In this, the Medical Superintendent, Dean, Director or Principal of the Medical College can be given extension in service or re-employed.

Retirement age of doctors in Assam increased to 70 years

The Assam government in the country has increased the retirement age of its doctors to 70 years. It is being told that the retirement of medical teachers regularly appointed on the posts of Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor from the medical college hospitals of the state is starting from this month itself.
