There are many temples of Jainism in Jamui district, one of which is located in Kakandi i.e. Kakan village. Here evidence has been found of an 1800 year old temple of Lord Suvidhinath, the 9th Tirthankar of Jainism. Even though there is no population of people following Jainism in Jamui today, a large number of Jain people used to live here once.

Apart from being the birthplace of Lord Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankar of Jainism, there are many Jain temples in the district, which are the center of faith of Jain followers, and a large number of Jain devotees come here every year.

Kakan village holds special significance for the followers of Jainism. There is a temple of Lord Suvidhinath, the 9th Tirthankara of Jainism, in Kakan village, 11 kilometers away from Jamui district headquarters. Suvidhinath was the son of Kakandi king and he propagated Jainism.

The childhood name of Lord Suvidhinath, the 9th Tirthankar of Jainism, was Pushpadant. He was the son of King Maharaj Sugriva and Queen Rama Devi of Kakandi state. Maharaj Sugriva was the king of Ikshvaku dynasty and Lord Suvidhinath was also related to Ikshvaku dynasty.

Lord Suvidhinath Nath had come here thousands of years ago and the evidence of his existence is also present in all the Jain religious texts. There is evidence of Suvudhinath’s existence 1800 years ago in the important books of Jainism, Bhagwati Aradhana (Gatha-1559) and Aradhana Kosh (Katha-67).
