North Bihar will be self-sufficient in fish production this year, production increased by one and a half thousand metric tons in a year in Sitamarhi

Sitamarhi. Sitamarhi district is now moving towards blue revolution. This year 2023, there has been an increase of about one and a half thousand metric tons of fish production. The nature of fish production, which was produced in just a few hectares in earlier years, is now becoming larger. At present, about 20 thousand metric tons of fish is being produced in 3993 hectare water areas. Which mainly includes Rohu, Naini, Grass Carp, Silver Carp and Pangasius and other species. This water area includes 2642 hectares of private water and 1351 hectares of government water. According to an estimate, 60 to 70 percent of the people in the district are fond of eating fish. This is the reason why about 2 metric tons of fish is imported from Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal every day in the district.

1220 beneficiaries benefited from various schemes

There are many schemes run by the Central and State Government to increase the income of fishermen by promoting fisheries. This year a total of 1220 beneficiaries have benefited from various schemes. In order to strengthen the Blue Revolution Scheme, apart from the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, under Seven Nishchay-2, the ornamental wholesale, retail, breeder, hobby rearing businessmen will be strengthened by strengthening the ornamental infrastructure and promotion units and by providing assistance to the people associated with this business. With the aim of making this business sustainable and sustainable, under the overall Ornamental Fisheries Scheme, wholesale ornamental fish promotion and marketing, ornamental fish breeding unit and ornamental fish unit support scheme are being provided. Whereas under the Renovation of Private Ponds Scheme, old private and private ponds constructed under the scheme are being renovated.

There is immense potential for fish farming in the district. Especially the young generation is also becoming aware in the field of fisheries. To increase their awareness, along with training and tours from the government level, they are also being benefited from various schemes, so that the income of fishermen can be increased by promoting fisheries.

Market will be built in Sitamarhi city, Dumra and Pupri

In the new year, fish vendors will be provided with shops along with a permanent market. They will get this facility under the Chief Minister Fisheries Marketing Scheme. Necessary action has been completed at the departmental level related to the construction of block and panchayat level fish market. At present, markets and shops will be constructed at three places in the district. Which includes Gudri Bazaar located at the district headquarters, Gudri Bazaar located in Sitamarhi city and Pupri Bazaar. It has been told that under the said scheme the unit cost of the fish market is Rs 25 lakh. The work agency for whose construction will be selected through e-tender.

DFO got the responsibility of allotment of shops

After construction of the fish market, it will be the responsibility of the District Fisheries Officer to determine and collect the annual rent of the shop, allotment, maintenance and management of the market. It was told that shops under the fish market will be allotted for five years to the beneficiaries duly selected by the selection committee constituted under the chairmanship of the Deputy Fisheries Director.

Operation will be done through group

For the daily management of the market, the group of fish sellers will form a user group with mutual consent. Only stall holders will be the members of this group, which will have a daily manager whose responsibility will be transferred to its permanent member every six months on the basis of rotation. Daily management will include cleanliness, water supply, minor repairs of structures, recording of arrival and sale of fish.
