Nokia’s factory in Chennai has now produced seven million telecom units. The factory located in Sriperumbudur is one of the company’s largest factories globally and manufactures infrastructure equipment for 4G and 5G networks in domestic and global markets.

The factory manufactures 5G New Radio (5G NR), 5G MIMO, 4G/LTE radio and fiber broadband equipment. The factory exports an estimated 50 percent of its production globally.

In a press statement, Nokia said that in 5G equipment manufacturing, localization of components has progressively increased by two times compared to the past several years.

Another achievement is that this factory uses 81 percent green energy resources like wind and solar energy for its daily operations. It is targeting 100 percent use of renewable energy for operations by 2025.

Teemu Toivainen, head of global manufacturing and EMS management at Nokia, said the Chennai factory is a testament to the skill and expertise of Indian talent. From being the first to manufacture 5G NR in India to producing 5G massive MIMO products and transport network elements.
