Nitish and Abha have been the youngest MPs of Jamshedpur.

Sanjeev Bhardwaj, Jamshedpur: The record of becoming youth MP from Jamshedpur parliamentary seat is in the name of Nitish Bhardwaj and Abha Mahato. Both were elected MPs at the age of 34 each. Nitish was born on 2 June 1962 and contested elections in 1996. Abha Mahato reached Parliament by defeating former Tata Steel MD Rusi Modi in the 1998 elections. Abha Mahato reached Lok Sabha for the second time at the age of 35. Shailendra Mahato was the second youngest MP from JMM to win the Lok Sabha elections from this seat. He won at the age of 36. He became MP for the second time at the age of 38. The average age of the public representatives who traveled to Parliament from Jamshedpur seat was 44 years.

The oldest MP of Jamshedpur was Gopeshwar (now late). Labor leader Gopeshwar had won the election in 1984 by defeating CPI candidate Tikaram Majhi. Gopeshwar was born on 21 December 1921, when he became MP in 1984, he was 63 years old. Rudra Pratap Shadangi also won the elections in 1977 and 80. JMM’s Sunil Mahato became MP at the age of 38, Arjun Munda at the age of 41. Dr. Ajay Kumar, who won the 2011 by-election, reached Parliament at the age of 49.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP candidate Vidyut Varan Mahato was elected MP from Jamshedpur seat for the second consecutive time. This time he won by a record margin of votes. In the 2014 elections, he wrested this seat from Dr. Ajay Kumar by defeating him by a margin of 99,876 votes, while in the 2019 elections, he defeated the current Chief Minister Champai Soren (JMM candidate) by a margin of 3,02,090 votes. Vidyut Varan Mahato got 6,79,632 (59.39%) votes, while Champai Soren got 3,77,542 (32.99%) votes. Barring these two candidates, the deposits of 19 others were forfeited.

BJP fielded tribal candidate on general seat for the first time

In 2009, BJP fielded Arjun Munda as a tribal candidate on the general seat of Jamshedpur and he defeated Suman Mahato, who was contesting as MP co-candidate, by a large margin. In 2011, Arjun Munda resigned to become the Chief Minister. In the by-election, JVM nominated Dr. Ajay Kumar, who was once the SP of the district, as its candidate, who defeated Dr. Dineshanand Goswami of BJP.
