NIA raids in four states including Bihar’s Rohtas, fake currency printing racket busted

Patna. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday busted the racket of printing fake notes and raided different locations in four states, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra, including Rohtas in Bihar. During this raid, fake notes as well as printing and digital gadgets etc. were seized. This raid was conducted on 24 November 2023 during the investigation of a case registered under section 120B along with 489B, 489C and 489D of the IPC. The case pertains to a larger conspiracy hatched by suspected persons to promote cross-border smuggling of fake currency notes and its circulation in various states of India.

Raids conducted at these places

NIA issued a statement saying that on the basis of secret information, Shashibhushan in Rohtas district of Bihar, Bhimrao in Yavatmal district of Maharashtra and Rahul Tanhaji Patil alias Javed in Kolhapur district, Aditya Singh in Shahjahanpur of Uttar Pradesh and Mahendra in Bellary district of Karnataka. Raids were conducted at the homes of persons named. During the search, notes worth Rs 6,600 (in denominations of Rs 500, Rs 200 and Rs 100) were seized along with printing documents from the house of Vivek Thakur alias Aditya Singh. He, along with Shiva Patil alias Bhimrao and others, used to purchase fake currency and its printing material from border countries for circulation across India.

Printer used for FICN seized

NIA investigation further revealed that Rahul Tanaji Patil alias Javed was using fraudulently obtained SIM cards to collect payments by promising to supply fake currency notes. During the search of Mahendra’s house, a printer used for FICN was seized.

NIA raid in Bijli Colony, employee’s son taken into custody and interrogated

According to the information received from Dehri city representative of Rohtas district, on Saturday morning, the NIA team from Patna along with the local police station raided the quarter of an electricity employee in the electricity colony located at Tar Bungalow in the city police station area. According to sources, during the raid, a laptop and six mobile phones were seized from the house of electricity employee Lakshmi Narayan. Also, his elder son Shashi Kumar was taken into custody and interrogated for about six hours. Shashi was released after interrogation. The team of NIA Patna and Bengaluru and a team of more than 10 male and female police officers in four vehicles had reached the government residence complex of electricity employee Lakshmi Narayan.
