Lucknow. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken cognizance of the custodial death of gangster-turned-politician mafia Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf. The National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to the Director General of Police (DGP) and Commissioner of Police, Prayagraj (CP), Uttar Pradesh Police. Both the officers have to submit the report within four weeks. This action has been taken after receiving a complaint regarding this case of murder in police custody. The commission has asked for the report in Hindi or English. It is even written in the notice that all the documents of the report should be legible.

Taking cognizance of the complaints coming on the famous murder case across the country, the National Human Rights Commission has sought a report from the DGP and Police Commissioner Prayagraj on about 15 points. The elder Ateeq was hit by nine bullets in his head and chest, while Ashraf was hit by five. The attack was carried out by three shooters who posed as media personnel carrying video cameras, mics and media identification cards.
