Where the Congress government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced a subsidy of Rs 3 lakh to the people of minority community on the purchase of vehicle. This scheme is for the financial year 2023-24. Under this scheme, people from minority community can buy vehicles worth up to Rs 8 lakh. The government will give a subsidy of 50% of the price of the vehicle or a maximum of Rs 3 lakh.

The poor will get help

According to an India Today report, Karnataka’s Minority Welfare and Waqf Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan said, “A driver should not remain a driver. He should also become the owner of the vehicle. He can buy a four-wheeler of his choice worth up to Rs 8 lakh. The government will provide a subsidy of up to Rs 3 lakh.”

The beneficiaries of this scheme must fulfill the following conditions:

  • Beneficiaries should be residents of Karnataka.

  • Their annual income should be less than Rs 4.5 lakh.

  • They should be members of any religious minority community.

The plan will start again

The last date of this scheme was 25th September, which has now been passed, while speculations are also being made about restarting the scheme. For which budget allocation will be made.

Opposition accused of appeasement

Here, controversy over this scheme has started since its inception. Karnataka’s main opposition BJP party has accused the state government of doing appeasement politics.

State government’s argument

The argument being made in favor of this scheme is that it will help in economically empowering the people of minority community. This will make it easier for them to access employment opportunities.
