A police official said on Saturday that an FIR was registered against the MLA at MIDC police station in suburban Andheri late on Friday night.
FIR registered in Mumbai on VHP’s complaint
Police said, a case has been registered against Awhad in Mumbai on the complaint of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) official Gautam Rawaria. The complainant said that he heard Awhad making objectionable comments against Lord Ram on a news channel. He said that a case has been registered against Awhad under section 295A of the Indian Penal Code (deliberate and malicious act intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting any religion or religious belief).

FIR against NCP MLA in Pune also
Not only has an FIR been registered against Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Jitendra Awhad in Mumbai, but earlier a similar case was also registered against him in Pune city on Friday. Police said that an FIR was registered against Awhad on the complaint of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state unit chief Dheeraj Ghate in Pune.

Jitendra Awhad is part of the Sharad Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). He represents the Mumbra-Kalwa constituency in Thane district.
What controversial statement did Jitendra Awhad give regarding Lord Ram?
Awhad had created a controversy three days ago by saying that Lord Ram was a non-vegetarian. At an NCP program in Shirdi on Wednesday, Awhad had said, Lord Ram used to hunt and eat. He belonged to us, the Bahujans. BJP is making us vegetarian, (but) we are following Ram’s example and eating mutton.
Awhad apologized after the protest
NCP MLA Awhad had apologized after the controversy over his controversial remarks on Lord Ram. He apologized and said that if anyone’s sentiments have been hurt, he expresses regret.
