National Farmers Day: Know how important soil testing is for farmers

National Farmers Day: National Farmers Day is celebrated in India on 23 December.

Today National Farmers Day is being celebrated across the country. Chaudhary Charan Singh’s birthday is celebrated as this day. The Government of India announced this day in the year 2001 to honor the contribution of Chaudhary Charan Singh and his journey from a farmer to the head of the state. On this special day, BollywoodWallah talked to Dr. PK Sahi, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Birsa Agricultural University, to know what efforts are being made by the governments for the betterment of the farmers.

Efforts for the betterment of farmers

On Farmers Day, we remember the personality who initiated many policies to improve the lives and conditions of farmers. Chaudhary Charan Singh had made the entire country aware about the importance of farmers in the national economy. Today, various efforts are being made to improve the condition of farmers in the entire country. The central and state governments are continuously working on such policies and schemes, which improve the condition of farmers.

Start of soil testing

Dean of Agriculture Department, Dr. Sahi said that the soil testing scheme has been started with the intention of improving the condition of farmers and increasing their production. After soil testing, it will help the farmers a lot. This testing will not only help farmers in increasing their production but will also provide them avenues for higher income.

Income will increase due to reduced costs

Dr. Shahi said that the low cost is due to the fertilizers and essential substances added to the crop before planting it for its good yield. Soil testing will enable us to know which substances are already present in the soil and in what quantity. Without soil testing, it is not possible to know which fertilizer is needed by the soil and which is not. Knowing this will reduce the costs that farmers used to spend on fertilizers before growing crops. If costs are reduced, farmers will benefit from whatever income they earn.

Farmers benefit from soil health

Giving detailed information about soil testing, BAU Dean Dr. Sahi said that another benefit that farmers will get from it includes analysis of soil health. By analyzing soil health, farmers will be able to clearly know which crop their soil will produce best, which will benefit the farmers. Apart from this, through soil health, farmers will also be able to know which fertilizer or manure their soil requires and in what quantity.
