Mutual Funds: Investment in large-cap mutual funds increased by 80 percent in one year, reached record high of 19 months

Mutual Funds Investment: In recent times, the number of people investing in mutual funds and SIP has increased rapidly. Due to market enthusiasm, investors are getting attracted by better returns. At the beginning of 2016, the number of active SIPs was around 10 million. Eight years later, the mutual fund industry is adding 5 million accounts in just one month. Moreover, according to data from the Association of Mutual Funds in India (Amfi), monthly contributions have increased more than six times to Rs 18,800 crore. During this period, investment assets linked to SIP accounts have increased 8.6 times from Rs 1.2 trillion to Rs 10.3 trillion. Along with this, investors have invested Rs 1,287 crore in large-cap mutual funds in January. This is the highest level of investment in 19 months. The surge in funds of small and medium companies has prompted them to book profits and their investment in large-caps has increased.

There was a huge withdrawal in December

Earlier in December 2023, he had made a net withdrawal of Rs 281 crore from the large-cap fund. The current level of investment is 80 percent more than the figure of Rs 716 crore in January last year. After this latest inflow, the asset base of mutual funds investing in large stocks increased by 26 percent to Rs 3 lakh crore in January, from Rs 2.38 lakh crore a year ago. According to the latest data from the Association of Mutual Funds in India (Amfi), large-cap-focused equity mutual funds received inflows of Rs 1,287 crore in January. This is the highest level since July 2022 of Rs 2,052 crore. Kaustubh Belapurkar, Director-Manager Research, Morningstar Investment Research India, said that investors in mutual funds investing in small and medium companies are reaping profits and reinvesting them in large cap funds.
