More than 5000 dengue cases in Bengal, 12 killed so far, State Health Department in alert mode

Dengue cases are increasing everyday in West Bengal. Despite continuous efforts by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation and the State Health Department, the number of dengue infected people is not decreasing. The state government has been instructed to intensify the awareness campaign in dengue affected areas. Mosquito nets are being distributed by the state government. Despite this, dengue continues to wreak havoc in Bengal. According to the information received from the Health Department, dengue cases have crossed 5000 so far. At the same time, 12 people have died so far. Pulse mode cleaning activity with monitoring with the help of drones has been started in all municipalities to control mosquito breeding sites. Apart from this, house-to-house survey activities have been started in all 129 municipal areas of the state, which will continue till December 1.

Dengue spreading due to these reasons

According to the survey report, dengue is spreading due to open drains, vacant land, wells and ponds. The number of empty land, open drains, ponds and wells is more in South Kolkata. Due to which more cases of dengue are coming here. The number of ponds, vacant land, wells has also been mentioned in the report. Please inform that there are a total of 16 boroughs under the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. There are 11813 wells, 12751 open drains, 1923 ponds, 4528 buildings under construction and 5029 open lands in one to 15 boroughs. Boroughs 8 to 14 in South Kolkata have a total of 88 per cent open drains, 77.5 per cent ponds, 63 per cent under-construction buildings, 85 wells and 88 per cent vacant land. The larvae of mosquitoes that spread dengue are thriving in these places only. Because of this, South Kolkata is on top in the case of dengue.

Cleanliness week being celebrated twice a month

The state government had directed to celebrate cleanliness week twice in every month from August. According to which the cleanliness week has been started. Cleanliness drive is being carried out in urban and sub-urban areas including collection of waste material in other areas. Central Government Institutions including Railways, Ports, Defense etc. and other industrial units are also being requested for proper cleanliness drives in their areas. School based campaigns will be started from August to create awareness in the community. It has been told that the service of free dengue test is available in 160 government hospitals across the state. Around 9,000 doctors and para-medical staff have been trained for case management of dengue patients.
