Patna. In Bihar, the owners of more than 4 lakh private and commercial vehicles are tax defaulters. Action will be taken against private and commercial vehicles that do not pay tax. The vehicle owners who have not deposited the vehicle tax, such vehicles have been declared as tax defaulters by the Transport Department. Most tax defaulters are in Patna. There are more than 1 lakh people in Patna who have not paid the vehicle tax. In Patna alone, tax and penalty of Rs 116 crore is due on the tax defaulter.

Rs 900 crore tax and penalty arrears

It is mandatory to deposit the motor vehicle tax on time under the Indian law. In case of vehicle tax arrears, there is a provision to impose penalty up to 200 percent in addition to the tax. Muzaffarpur is on the second place in the list of district-wise tax defaulter vehicles. There are 65 thousand 452 tax defaulters here while Purnia is at the third place, where the number of tax defaulters is 26512. After this come the districts of Bhagalpur, Begusarai, Gaya, Jehanabad, Chhapra, Nalanda, Rohtas etc. About Rs 900 crore tax and penalty is outstanding in the entire state.

Transport department will take action for recovery

Action will be taken by the District Transport Officer for not depositing the tax and penalty of the defaulter vehicles. The Commissioner of the State Transport Department said that a special campaign will be launched by the District Transport Officer, MVI and ESI in all the districts for recovery of tax and penalty from tax defaulter vehicles. In case of non-payment of tax, recovery action will be taken against the defaulter vehicle owner by filing an auction letter and if necessary, the vehicle will also be blacklisted.
