Meanwhile, the private forecasting agency ‘Skymet Weather’ has given information regarding the monsoon. Skymet Weather forecast a weak monsoon in India over the next four weeks, raising concerns about the impact on agriculture.

In its forecast, the agency said that the Extended Range Prediction System (ERPS) is projecting a gloomy outlook for the next four weeks, till July 6. Skymet Weather said that central and western parts of India may face challenges in dealing with the effects of drought due to inadequate rainfall at the start of the season.

Let us tell you that the southwest monsoon reached Kerala on June 8, a week after the normal date of June 1. Cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ in the Arabian Sea earlier delayed the onset of monsoon over Kerala and is now hampering the progress of the rain-bearing system, the private agency said.

According to the latest information given by the Meteorological Department (IMD) about the cyclone ‘Biparjoy’, the cyclonic storm weakened and at 11.30 am about 310 km south-west of Porbandar, 320 km south-west of Devbhoomi Dwarka, 380 km south-southeast of Jakhau Port. It lay centered over southwest and will cross Jakhau Port (Gujarat) by June 15 evening.

According to IMD data, ‘Biparjoy’ may become the longest-lived cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea. The duration of this cyclone is about seven days and 12 hours. IMD said the duration of 2019 extremely severe cyclone ‘Kyarr’ over the Arabian Sea was nine days and 15 hours.
