Mominpur case: NIA announces reward of Rs 1 lakh each on seven absconding accused

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has declared a reward against seven absconding accused in connection with a clash between two groups in Mominpur area of ​​the city in October last year. A reward of Rs 1 lakh has been announced on each of the absconding accused. On the instructions of the Union Home Ministry, the NIA is probing the case of clash between two groups in Mayurbhanj, Mominpur under Iqbalpur police station area in October.

On Wednesday, the NIA told that a reward of Rs one lakh per accused will be given to those who help the investigating agency and inform them to catch the accused. On October 18, 2022, a warrant was issued against these seven accused by the Chief Judge, City Sessions Court (NIA Special Court), Calcutta. Along with this, his huliya was also released. In order to arrest the accused, the NIA has not only conducted raids in the metropolis, but also in Bihar, Jharkhand and other states besides conducting raids in different parts of West Bengal including Murshidabad, Birbhum, Malda.

In January this year, the NIA had filed a charge sheet in the Kolkata-based NIA Special Court against 14 accused, including the names of the seven absconding accused, in connection with the clash. In January itself, the NIA had conducted a search operation at different places including Mayurbhanj Road, Iqbalpur Lane, Bhu-Kailash Road. At some places the NIA officials also had to face opposition from the people. However, Central Security Force personnel were present along with the NIA officials during the raid.

Around Rs 33,87,300 was seized from the premises located at Bhukailash Road, Iqbalpul Lane and other places. Along with this, some documents related to the case, digital equipment and sharp weapons were also seized. During the operation, Rs 30.55 lakh was seized from the residence of one of the absconding accused in the case, Mohammad Salauddin, Rs 1,59,300 from Zakir Hussain’s residence and Rs 1.73 lakh from the house of another person.

It is worth mentioning that on the night of October 8 last year, there was a dispute between two groups over the installation of a flag in Mayurbhanj area, which later took a big shape. Clashes continued from time to time even after a day i.e. till October 9, during which many houses were ransacked. Bikes parked on the roadside were also damaged. Police officers and personnel were also injured in the clash.

Kolkata Police was investigating the first case and arrested more than two dozen people. On October 18, 2022, on the instructions of the Union Home Ministry, the NIA started investigating the case by registering an FIR. The NIA has also interrogated the accused arrested by Kolkata Police in their custody. On December 14, the NIA arrested two people named Mamul Haq and Ghulam Mohammad Ejaz. This was the first arrest of NIA in this case.
