Kolkata Metro on Thursday tested the metro train in a tunnel built under the Hooghly river. According to the metro official, this test was done after the Kolkata Metro created history by running a metro train between Kolkata and Howrah for the first time in the country on April 12 in a tunnel built under the Hooghly river. He told that the test conducted in a distance of about 4.8 kilometers from Howrah Maidan station to Esplanade was successful.

After this, the train came back to Howrah Maidan station with some officials and media persons of Kolkata Metro. AK Nandi, general manager of Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation, said that the Kolkata Metro authorities will continue to conduct such tests on a large scale before opening this section of the East-West Metro corridor to the public.

Announcer entering the tunnel – We are now entering the river

The announcement happened as soon as the train reached the tunnel built under the Hooghly river – now we are entering the river. It will take 45 seconds to cross the 520 meter tunnel built under the river. However, during the trial run, the metro went under the river for three minutes due to permission to media persons to take pictures.

The river will not be visible from the tunnel, an informative board will be visible

Metro Railway says that by the end of this year or in the beginning of 2024, metro service will start from Howrah Maidan to Esplanade. Where the river will start, there will be a board in the tunnel. An announcement will also be made that now you are passing 33 meters below the river level. However, the river will not be visible.
