Attempt to disrupt mayoral election

Earlier, senior party leader Sanjay Singh spoke to the media on Monday and said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had tried to disturb the mayor’s election earlier also, but still AAP won. He said that we will nominate only Shelly Oberoi and Aale Mohammad Iqbal as candidates for the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor respectively. AAP had emerged victorious in the mayoral election held earlier, despite attempts by the BJP to obstruct it. Our candidates will win the election this time also.

Mayor’s post reserved for women

In the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), the mayor is elected afresh after the end of every financial year. In MCD, for the first year the post of mayor is reserved for women, in the second year the post is not reserved for any class. In the third year, only a person belonging to the reserved category can contest the election and for the next two years, a person from any category can contest the election.

After the three corporations were integrated into the MCD, a new delimitation exercise was carried out, in which the total number of wards was reduced from 272 to 250 as of 2012. Municipal elections were held in Delhi on December 4, in which the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) registered a victory.
