MCD Mayor Election: Election of Delhi MCD Mayor will be held on April 26, Shelly Oberoi sent proposal

Delhi MCD Election: Leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Minister of Health, Urban Development and Water of Delhi Saurabh Bhardwaj today informed that the election for the post of Mayor of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will be held on 26 April. Speaking to ANI, Bhardwaj, nominated member of MCD said, ‘It is necessary to hold elections in April. Present Delhi government minister and AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj further told that- Mayor Shelly Oberoi has fixed the date of 26th April for this.

Saurabh Bhardwaj expressed hope

Saurabh Bhardwaj further said that- I hope that if all the rules and regulations are followed by the LG office then the elections will be held in a peaceful manner. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Shaili Oberoi completed her 38-day term as mayor on 31 March. As per norms, the election process needs to be completed before April 30. Bhardwaj also attacked Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena and said- It was very unfortunate that the LG nominated a presiding officer for the mayoral election who created hurdles in its smooth conduct.

Attempt to allow aldermen to vote against

Alleging Bhardwaj, he also tried to allow nominated members (aldermen) to vote against it, for which the Supreme Court reprimanded him, the court said it was wrong. So would like to request that only the right person should be selected for conducting the mayor election. He suggested that the deputy mayor could be made the pro tem presiding officer, who could conduct the election of the mayor. Bhardwaj, however, refrained from commenting on the name of the party’s mayoral candidate. He said that the matter related to the election of the members of the Standing Committee is pending in the court. I have no clue. Regarding the candidate of the party for the post of Mayor, the final decision will be taken by the high command of the same party.

Shelly Oberoi elected as mayor for the fourth time

Shelly Oberoi was elected as mayor for the fourth time earlier this year following a tussle between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Aam Aadmi Party. Whereas, the last three attempts to elect the mayor failed due to political infighting between the Aam Aadmi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party. They met for the first time on 6 January, the second time on 24 January and the third time on 6 February. For information, let us tell you that Delhi Municipal Elections were held on 4th December and its results were released on 7th December. In this, Aam Aadmi Party won 134 out of 250 seats.
