MBBS seats may decrease in PMCH, National Medical Council will inspect for the first time after Corona

Patna. The biggest medical college of Bihar is faced with the challenge of saving its MBBS seats. More than half of the posts of teachers are vacant in Bihar’s oldest Patna Medical College and Hospital i.e. PMCH. The team of National Medical Council (NMC) is going to arrive this month. The PMCH administration will face the challenge of saving MBBS seats here due to lack of infrastructure as well as teachers.

More than half the posts of teachers are vacant

According to the information, almost half of the sanctioned 579 posts of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor in PMCH are lying vacant. The biggest problem is that there is not even a single professor in many subjects. These matters will come before the team during the possible inspection of NMC. NMC has been continuously talking about faculty appointment in the institute. The shortage of faculty at the college level is continuously increasing. After retirement, many people are being given extensions and are being kept as professors for two years, but due to lack of promotion, there is a shortage of associate professors.

There is not a single associate professor in these departments

The institute does not have any associate professor in Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, FMT, Pathology, Microbiology, Endocrinology, Neurology, Cardiology, Geriatric Surgery, Eye, ENT, Pediatric Surgery, Orthopedics, Neuro Surgery, PMR. There are only two associate professors in Biochemistry, two in Community Medicine, one in Medicine, one in TB and Chest and only two in Surgery.

Inspection will be done for the first time after Corona

Due to Corona, physical inspection of other medical colleges including PMCH is not being done since the year 2020. Only online inspection is being done by NMC. PMCH Principal Prof. Vidyapati Chaudhary said that preparations are going on for possible inspection by NMC. Efforts are being made to remove the shortcomings identified earlier. Efforts are going on at the government level regarding new appointments. He said that this problem will be resolved soon.
