Kanpur. IIT Kanpur has conducted a survey under the Startup Future Crime Research Foundation, in which a report has been prepared after analyzing the cases of cyber fraud across the country. In this, new hotspots of cyber crime have also been identified state-wise. Cyber Jhansi is ahead of Kanpur in fraud. At the same time, Mathura is at second place in the country from where cyber fraud is taking place.

Report prepared on the basis of government data

Apart from Mathura, Jhansi, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh includes Lucknow, Bulandshahr, Ghaziabad, Maharajganj, Sitapur, Jewar and Gautam Buddha Nagar. Harshvardhan Singh, founder of IIT’s startup Future Crime Research Foundation, said that this report has been prepared on the basis of government data between January 2020 and June 2023. In this, cyber fraud has been divided into different categories. At the same time, the cities from where more fraud is taking place have been identified. Most of the new hotspots of cyber crime are being created in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, West Bengal. He said that this report has also been submitted to the Central Government, so that a special action plan can be prepared to stop cyber crimes. Bharatpur is at the first place in the country. While Jamtara is at fifth position.

Sexting and stalking more in social media cyber fraud

Victims of cyber fraud are increasing through social media. Most of the cases are of sexting and stalking. A total of 12.7 percent cases are happening through social media. 2.38 percent cases are due to fake profiles and 2.37 percent cases are of profile hacking. According to the report, maximum 77.41 percent cases are of online financial fraud. In which fraud has been done through UPI in 47.25 percent cases alone. In 11.27 percent cases, fraud has occurred due to SIM swap with debit card or credit card.
