Mask PM election in Pakistan

No party has achieved majority in the recent general elections of Pakistan. Allegations of rigging in elections there are nothing new, because every election is conducted by the army. Everyone knows what the result will be. There the Prime Minister is just a mask of the army, but many times the Prime Minister there gets the illusion that the army is under him and he starts taking independent decisions, only then his countdown starts. First this happened with Nawaz Sharif and then the same story was repeated with Imran Khan also. For this reason it is being said that there are no elections in Pakistan, the Prime Minister is selected by the army. In the last elections, Imran Khan was the mask of the army, while this time the army’s choice is Nawaz Sharif. However, this time there is a slight twist in the story. Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was not allowed to contest the elections, but the independent candidates supported by it have won in the highest number. The results for PTI have been better than expected. These results are a blow to the leaders of the Army and the Muslim League (Nawaz), because it was believed that the Muslim League (Nawaz) would form the government on its own. It is being said that Army Chief Asim Munir has failed to control the results, but such reports are also coming out that according to the army’s script, now Nawaz Sharif’s Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) and Asif Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto’s Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) will together form the government. The army’s control over power in Pakistan is not a new thing. He has complete control from power to judiciary. The courts also give verdicts at the behest of the army, otherwise the judges themselves are dismissed. This is the reason why all the coups that have taken place there have been justified by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Common Indians have no idea how powerful the army is in Pakistan, because the army has never played any role in politics in our country. Interesting thing is that every Pakistani leader publicly says that he has power and the army stands with him, but in reality they are just a mask. There is army empire there. She runs an industry. He has a lot of interest in the property business. It has its own courts. The army has a military trust, which has assets worth crores. The special thing is that all the business of the army has been kept out of the scope of investigation. He owns land in almost every city. Defense Housing Authority has vast lands in Karachi and Lahore. From golf clubs to shopping malls and business parks belong to the army.

The roots of democracy in Pakistan are so weak that after three-four years it gets hit by something or the other. The Prime Minister there is the weakest link. Be it the Nawaz Sharif government with a huge mandate or the Imran Khan government with a simple majority, the army does not take long to topple it. The political history of Pakistan since its establishment has been extremely turbulent and bloody. Military dictators have toppled elected governments there four times. Two Prime Ministers have been dismissed by the judiciary, while one former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was hanged and one former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated. The current developments are a repetition of the same turmoil. It is a well-known fact that in the last election, the Pakistani Army had used its full strength to make Imran Khan win. For this, the army had heavily rigged the elections. The army had kept the entire system under its control, from election campaign to voting and counting. Pakistani security agencies had launched a continuous campaign to influence the election coverage. Any journalist, channel or newspaper who was seen standing in favor of Nawaz Sharif was targeted by the intelligence agencies. Just before the elections, Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to 10 years and his daughter Maryam to seven years in jail in a corruption case, so that Imran Khan could emerge as a strong contender for power. Imran Khan came to power in 2018 with the help of the army, but he completely failed on every front. During his tenure, the economic condition of Pakistan deteriorated. The army felt that in these difficult circumstances it was better to get rid of Imran Khan. Also, Imran Khan’s figure is thirty-six compared to the current army chief Asim Munir. When Asim Munir was the head of Pakistani intelligence agency ISI, he was removed by Imran Khan. This time too the script is the same, only the characters are different. Imran Khan is in jail. In these elections, Imran’s party PTI was kept out of the elections. This time the mask of the army is Nawaz Sharif and his brother Shahbaz Sharif. Nawaz Sharif has been brought from London to Pakistan for the elections and all the cases against him have been put on hold. Before this, when Nawaz Sharif was the Prime Minister, he had admitted that terrorist organizations were active in Pakistan. After his statement became public, the Pakistani Army turned against him and he was sent to jail. Nawaz Sharif was dismissed by the Supreme Court of Pakistan in 2017 on corruption charges and a case of treason was also filed against him.

Although there is so much fear of the army in Pakistan that politicians are afraid of raising questions on the army, but this is the first time in the history of Pakistan that the leaders of Imran Khan’s party are seen openly challenging the army. The candidates of Imran Khan’s party won the elections as independent candidates. There is an old saying that you can change your friends, but not your neighbors. Pakistan is our neighboring country, hence the developments there affect us even if we don’t want to. The weakening of democratic forces and strengthening of the army in Pakistan is not a good sign. Political instability in the neighboring country is not in India’s interest.
