Maruti cars have steering problem, company recalls 87,599 units

Maruti Suzuki India has issued a recall due to a possible defect in a part of the steering tie rod. S-Presso and Maruti Eeco Has announced a recall of 87,599 units. These units were to be manufactured over a period of about two years between July 5, 2021 and February 15, 2023. The company said that owners of vehicles affected by the problem will be called to an authorized workshop where the defective part of their vehicle will be replaced free of cost. This process is starting from 24th July. In the last few years, this is the biggest case of any vehicle manufacturing company recalling its vehicle for any fault.

Steering will be changed without any charge

The brand’s dealerships will call the buyers of the affected units to get their vehicles inspected and replaced free of cost. According to the manufacturer, a faulty part of the steering tie rod can affect the handling and dynamics of the vehicle, and worst of all, it can even break in rare cases.

Both these cars also had a problem with the airbags.

Both these cars, the S-Presso and the Eeco, were also part of the previous recall in January 2023 due to a suspected defect in the airbag control module. Maruti fixed that problem also free of cost.

The S-Presso sits just above the Alto in the Maruti lineup. It is offered with a 1-litre petrol engine (68PS/90Nm) mated to either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT. The same engine is also offered with CNG, which outputs 56.69PS and 82Nm and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission only.

1.2-litre petrol engine in the Eeco MPV

The Eeco MPV, on the other hand, has been offered with a 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 81PS and 104.4Nm. The same unit is also available in CNG, whose outputs drop to 72PS and 95Nm. Both the petrol and CNG units come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission

S-Presso price Rs 4.26 lakh

The Maruti S-Presso price ranges between Rs 4.26 Lakh to Rs 6.12 Lakh, while the Eeco price ranges from Rs 5.27 Lakh to Rs 6.53 Lakh. The S-Presso competes directly with the Renault Kwid, while the Eeco does not have any direct rivals in India.

Maruti S-Presso is available in 4 variants

Maruti sells the S-Presso in a price range of Rs 4.26 lakh to Rs 6.12 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It can be bought in four broad variants: Std, LXi, VXi(O) and VXi+(O). The LXi and VXi trims get the option of a CNG kit. The S-Presso comes in six color options: Solid Sizzle Orange, Solid Fire Red, Metallic Granite Grey, Metallic Silky Silver, Pearl Starry Blue and Solid White.

In terms of engine and transmission, the Maruti S-Presso is being offered with a 1-litre petrol engine (68PS/90Nm) mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT. The CNG trims use the same engine and produce a lesser output of 56.69PS and 82Nm and are mated to a 5-speed manual only.

It is offered in four wide variants: 5-Seater Standard (O), 5-Seater AC (O), 5-Seater AC CNG (O) and 7-Seater Standard (O). The customers can buy the Eeco in five monotone colours. Metallic Glistening Grey, Pearl Midnight Black, Metallic Brisk Blue, Metallic Silky Silver and Solid White.

It is available in both 5 and 7-seater configurations. In terms of engine and transmission, the van uses a 1.2-litre petrol engine (81PS/ 104.4Nm) mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The CNG variant uses the same engine with reduced outputs of 72PS and 95Nm.
