Manipur Violence: Protesters violate curfew, more than 40 people injured in police action

Manipur Violence: Violence in Manipur is not taking the name of stopping. The police administration is making every possible effort to restore peace, but every day some or the other incidents are coming to the fore. In this series, security forces fired tear gas shells to disperse the protesters who were trying to break the security barricades at Phaugakchao unit in Vishnupur district of Manipur, injuring more than 40 people. Most of the injured were women. Here, regarding the incident, officials have said that in violation of the curfew, hundreds of local people came out of their homes in Oinam of Vishnupur district. The protesters sat in the middle of the road to stop the movement of those personnel of the police and other central forces. After which the police fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. However, in the meantime, the protesters broke the barricade set up by the police and moved towards the Fougakchao unit.

COCOMI calls upon people to storm the barricades
People had gathered in Bishnupur district on the call of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) to break the barricades of the army at Phougakchao unit. There was a demand of these people that they should be sent towards Churachandpur. Speaking to the media, Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) President Lourembam Nganbi said that hundreds of Meiteis who had left their homes in Torbung after the violence broke out on May 3 were unable to go to their homes due to barricades . He said that we are only demanding that they be shifted so that people can go to their homes. COCOMI called upon people to storm the barricades as the government did not heed their request to remove the barricades till 30 August.

The protesters violated the curfew
Here, security forces fired tear gas shells to disperse protesters trying to break security barriers in Phougakchao Ikhai in Bishnupur district of Manipur, injuring more than 40 persons, mostly women. The officers provided this information. Officials said that the injured have been taken to Bishnupur District Hospital and other nearby hospitals for treatment. It is noteworthy that on Tuesday, fearing law and order violation, the state government had imposed complete curfew in five districts of the valley till further orders.

Supreme Court gave instructions
Here, in the Manipur violence case, the Supreme Court has sought a report from the Chief Secretary regarding the supply and availability of food and medicines in the state. Apart from this, the Supreme Court has directed that any kind of problem and need should be resolved immediately. Apart from this, the Supreme Court has also asked for a roadmap for the recovery of weapons. During the hearing, the Supreme Court took on record the affidavit of the Manipur government and said that if there is any complaint, then you can put your demands before the committee.

Manipur violence issue may arise in special session of Parliament
Let us tell you, on September 18, the special session of the Parliament can start. The session may start in the old building and then there is a possibility of conducting the proceedings from the new building the next day. According to the report, the transfer of work to the new Parliament House will coincide with Ganesh Chaturthi, which is considered auspicious for any new beginning. In this context, Sonia Gandhi wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi today i.e. on Wednesday saying that no agenda was listed for the special session. He has also requested for discussion on nine issues including caste census, border dispute with China, and Manipur violence. It is noteworthy that earlier in the monsoon session, the session had become a victim of opposition’s uproar regarding Manipur violence. The session could not run even for a day.

Why is there fire in Manipur?
It is noteworthy that it has been more than 3 months since the violence in Manipur. Many people have lost their lives in violent clashes between the Kuki and Meitei communities, and hundreds of houses have been set on fire. Actually, violence is taking place in Manipur between Kuki and Meitei communities over reservation. More than 160 people have died so far in the violence that has been going on for months. Many inhuman acts were also seen during the period of violence.
