Mamata Banerjee: Bengal government has started sending money to MNREGA workers

The central government did not release the funds. We have started transferring funds to their respective accounts. Due to this there is a very happy atmosphere among the workers.

Mamata sat on a 48-hour strike demanding dues

Mamata Banerjee had recently staged a 48-hour dharna in the city demanding release of state dues. He announced that his government will transfer funds to the bank accounts of 21 lakh MNREGA workers in the state by February 21. Referring to her party’s protests led by Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, Mamata Banerjee said, ‘Workers, MPs, MLAs and block presidents all went to New Delhi (in December) despite the cancellation of trains. They went there by bus under the leadership of Abhishek. I had staged a protest for the first 48 hours and had met the Prime Minister more than once for this (funds). On this occasion, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also mentioned plans to make another announcement regarding funds for the housing scheme. The strike started by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the outstanding funds will continue till 13 February.
