Ranbir Kapoor’s revenge-crime drama Animal created many new records at the box office. The film got good response from the audience and earned more than Rs 700 crore.
Javed Akhtar criticized Animal at the 9th edition of Ajanta Ellora International Film Festival (AIFF). Talking about the controversial ‘Lick my shoes’ scene in the movie, he said, “If a film in which a man says to a woman ‘Lick my shoes’. If a man says ‘Lick the woman.’ What’s wrong’, if that picture is a super-duper hit, then it is a very dangerous thing.
Now the makers of Animal, while replying to Javed Akhtar, wrote on their social media handle, If a writer of your caliber cannot understand the betrayal of a lover (between Zoya and Rannvijay), then all your art is a big lie.
The makers further wrote, If a woman (deceived and fooled by a man in the name of love) had said “Lick my shoes” then you people would have celebrated it by calling it feminism.
The makers also wrote that, let love be free from gender politics. Let’s just call them lovers. The lover cheated and lied. The lover said, lick my shoe. Period.
Javed Akhtar had also said, “More than the cinema makers, the cinema watchers have a bigger responsibility. This is your responsibility. You will decide what kind of films will be made and what kind of films will not be made.
