Mahindra Thar 5-Door will be launched on August 15

Mahindra Thar 5-Door: Mahindra launched the second generation Thar in 3-door format on August 15, 2020. Exactly four years later, on August 15, 2024, Mahindra will introduce the 5 door version of Thar. Better suited to family needs, the 5-door Thar could emerge as a major disruptor in many SUV segments. It is likely to be sold as ‘Thar Armada’.

The new design will have a different side profile with larger 19-inch wheels and pillar mounted rear door handles. Running boards were seen on a test mule of the recently spotted 5-door Thar. Not much change is expected later. An electrically adjustable single-pane sunroof may be included in the equipment list for the 5-door Thar. Features like front parking sensor and front camera can be found in the safety kit.

Mahindra Thar 5-Door Powertrain

It is expected that the Thar 5-door will initially be available only in 4×4 format. A 4×2 (RWD) variant may be introduced at a later date. The 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel motors will be taken from the existing 3-door Thar. The petrol unit produces 150 hp of maximum power and 300 Nm of peak torque mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Torque output is 320 Nm with 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox

Mahindra Thar 5-Door Engine

Transmission options remain the same for the 2.2 liter diesel engine. It produces 130 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. It is not certain whether the 1.5 liter diesel engine will be available with the 5-door Thar at launch. Mahindra may focus on the 4×4 variant first to establish it as the most capable SUV in the lifestyle off-roader segment.

Taking on the primary rivals Jimny and 5-door Gurkha, the Mahindra Thar may also impress the 5-door compact SUV. The 5-door Thar has an iconic design and caters to the needs of a family. Also, no compact SUV currently offers 4×4. Enthusiasts who want to experience the thrill of 4×4 can choose the Thar 5-door version.
