Maharashtra: Naxalites kill policeman’s father for supporting mining project in Gadchiroli

Nagpur: A big news is coming out from Maharashtra. Here the father of a C-60 crack commando was kidnapped and murdered by Naxalites. The son of the person who was murdered works as a police warden. This incident took place in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra, where Naxalites allegedly shot dead a village head for supporting a mining project. Along with this, they also beat up some villagers. This information was given by the police.

An official said that the incident took place on Thursday night in Titola village of Etapalli tehsil of the district. Armed Naxalites shot dead village head Lalsu Velda (63) in his house. Naxalites also beat up some villagers. The son of the deceased is a policeman. According to the official, the Naxalites accused the villagers of supporting the Surjagarh iron ore mining project in Hedri, 200 km from here. He said that in a pamphlet found at the spot, the Gadchiroli Division Committee of Naxalites has taken responsibility for the murder and pointed fingers at the Deputy Superintendent of Hedri and local leaders for supporting the mining project.

According to the official, the Naxalites also warned that the tribals are engaged in a fierce fight to protect their resources and that those working against their interests will have to face consequences. Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police (SP) Neelotpal said that the police have intensified security measures in the district and the incident will be investigated.
