The condition of farmers is bad after globalization. If they are committing suicide, the reason for this is government policies. They were facing the brunt of drought earlier also, but now they are helpless. I went to Marathwada and saw how the farmers were living there. What are their problems? The government wants the farmers to leave farming so that corporate farming can take place. The farmer’s relationship is breaking with his land and he is becoming a laborer. The situation is so bad that the farmers are not getting salvation even after death. When I went there, I saw what is the truth. But this truth never comes to the fore. All the news is played on TV, but no one speaks on the problems of the farmers. Their problems are never visible in the mainstream, nor are they discussed. Seeing all these things, there is a lot of restlessness in my mind and all the same things get down on paper through pen.

Madhu Kankaria was born in Kolkata
Madhu Kankaria is a reputed writer of Hindi literature. He was born on 23 March 1957 in Kolkata. Madhu Kankaria has published seven novels and 12 story collections. The novelty of thought and sensitivity and the problems prevalent in the society are prominently visible in his creations. He obtained M.A. in Economics from Calcutta University and has done Diploma in Computer Application from Calcutta itself. His main works are – Bird dies like this, black eagle, file, it was cut by Buddha, dark afternoon, red stars of open sky, dry poplar, Salaam Aakhri, Pattakhor, Sanskrit on Sage.

It is worth mentioning that this award was started in the year 2011 in the memory of eminent storyteller Shrilal Shukla. This award is given every year to a Hindi writer whose works mainly depict rural and agricultural life. Earlier this honor has been given to Vidyasagar Nautiyal, Shekhar Joshi, Sanjeev, Mithileshwar, Ashtabhuja Shukla, Kamalakant Tripathi, Ramdev Dhurandhar, Ramdhari Singh Diwakar, Mahesh Katare, Ranendra, Shivmurti and Jaynandan. Madhu Kankaria will be given this honor on September 30 in New Delhi. He will be given a citation, insignia and a check of Rs 11 lakh.
