Lucknow News: Former Uttar Pradesh minister and BJP leader from Lucknow East Ashutosh Tandon ‘Gopalji’ died on Thursday after a long illness. Ashutosh Tandon was a cabinet minister in the first term of the Yogi government. He was ill for a long time and was undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital. It is being told that Ashutosh Tandon was suffering from cancer. Ashutosh Tandon had a heart surgery in the month of July. Since then he was continuously ill. In the first term of Yogi government, he had many big departments like medical education, urban development, employment and poverty alleviation. The name of his father, senior BJP leader and former Governor Lalji Tandon, is counted among the famous personalities of Lucknow. Like his father, Ashutosh Tandon was also of gentle nature. When his health deteriorated, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also reached the hospital to inquire about his well being. It is being told that despite treatment, Ashutosh Tandon’s health was not improving and he died during treatment on Thursday.

Apart from this, other senior BJP leaders and ministers will also arrive to express their condolences. After completing his studies from Lucknow University, Ashutosh Tandon entered the field of politics. In 2013, he became MLA for the first time by winning the by-election on Lucknow City East seat. Earlier, he had stood from Lucknow North seat in the 2012 assembly elections but he could not win. He became MLA for the third time in the 2022 assembly elections.
