People of Naxal-hit Baskatba, Patwas and Chodhi villages of Fatehpur block of Gaya will cast their votes at the booth of their village in the Lok Sabha elections after 25 years. Earlier the people of these villages used to go to other places and vote. Even after the Naxalites issued orders to boycott voting and face bad consequences, people of these villages used to walk 4 to 6 kilometers to vote. This time they will vote at the school booth located in their village. Tight security arrangements have been made at these polling stations. The administration claims that the people here will vote fearlessly this time amid tight security. This time these voters are very excited about voting in their village.

These villages are situated on the border of Jharkhand

Baskatba, Patwas and Chodhi villages situated amidst forests and mountains on the Bihar-Jharkhand border have been badly affected by Naxalism. Due to it being a Naxal area, in view of any untoward incident, in the year 2001, the booths from these villages were removed and shifted to the booths of other villages. The booths of Baskatba and Patwas villages were shifted to Alkhadiha and Gurgupa and the booth of Chodhi village was shifted to Dundu. After this, the voters of Baskatba, Patwas and Chodhi villages were forced to come to Alkhadiha, Gurgupa and Dundu villages to vote.

great enthusiasm among voters

Earlier, people of these villages used to come to Gurgupa Middle School booth to vote. Voters of these three villages had to face a lot of trouble in traveling a distance of four to six kilometers to vote. Not only this, a large number of voters were deprived of voting. This time the voters of these villages are very excited about voting in their own villages. A lot of enthusiasm is being seen especially among the elderly voters. However, the elderly voters are sad about the fact that they have always risked their lives and voted, but till date no party leader has taken any care of them or their village.

Naxalite orders used to be issued

Voters of Baskatwa and Patwas villages say that 25 years ago the influence of Naxalites had increased in their village area. At that time, Naxalites used to announce vote boycott in any election. Also, orders were issued that whoever would vote. They will have to face bad consequences. Still, people of these villages used to walk 4 to 6 kilometers to vote. The villagers are also very sad about the fact that even though they vote equally, their village has not developed. No leader has ever paid attention to the development of his village. There is still a serious problem of drinking water in his village. They have not got water even from tap water.
