In the second phase of Lok Sabha elections, voting will be held in Darjeeling, Raiganj and Balurghat Lok Sabha seats of the state. Among the major candidates contesting in this phase, BJP state president and Balurghat MLA Sukant Majumdar will face Biplab Mitra of Trinamool Congress.

BJP MLA from Kurseong Bishnu Prasad Sharma has announced that he will contest as an independent candidate against the party’s official candidate from Darjeeling seat. . Bishnu Prasad Sharma said, he will remain in BJP even while contesting independent elections and the party can take any disciplinary action as per its wish, but he does not intend to break ties with the party on his own.

Last date for withdrawal of candidature is 8th April

TMC has made Krishna Kalyani, the sitting MLA from Raiganj Lok Sabha constituency, its candidate from this Lok Sabha seat. At the same time, BJP has fielded Tirik Pal from this seat, while Imran Ali Ramz, popularly known as Victor, will contest on Congress ticket. The last date for filing nominations under the second phase is April 4. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on April 5 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is April 8.
