CPM candidate wins Birbhum Lok Sabha seat ten times
This year a total of nine candidates were standing for this seat. In the same year 2014, Trinamool Congress candidate Shatabdi Rai got 460568 votes while CPM candidate Dr Ilahi Kamre Mohammad got 393305 votes. In the same year 2009, Shatabdi Rai, standing from Trinamool Congress, defeated CPM candidate Baraj Mukherjee by a margin of 61159 votes. Shatabdi got 486553 votes while Baraj got 425034 votes. Before this, CPM candidates had won this seat ten consecutive times from 1977 to 2009 and became Lok Sabha MPs.
