Craze for politicians’ traditional dress of pajama-kurta is being seen among the youth. The youth who used to be seen in branded and designer jeans pants and filmy style T-shirts and shirts in normal days, are today seen in linen and cotton kurtas and Aligarhi pyjamas. The sale of kurta-pajama which used to have negligible sales in the market has increased by 60 percent.
Young silk and cotton textile businessman Tehseen Sawab said that due to the simultaneous arrival of elections, summer and Eid, the sales of kurta, pajama, gamchha and bandi have increased. Due to sudden increase in heat the demand for gamcha increased. Even before this, a flood of orders came from all over the country including Patna, Ranchi, Delhi. It is becoming difficult to fulfill orders. Only Gamchha, Kurta-Pajama clothes are expected to have a turnover of more than Rs 10 crore.
Craze of plain color kurta and Aligarhi pajama
Regarding elections, not only the youth but also people of other age groups are preferring cotton plain kurta and Aligarhi pajama for leadership. Director of Kurta House of Tatarpur, Mohd. Rashid Jamal said that as the elections are coming closer, readymade kurta pajama is becoming more popular. Sales are increasing. Kurtas priced between Rs 250 to Rs 350 and pajamas priced between Rs 150 to Rs 200 are being liked more. There is no hassle of sewing and buying cloth. Yes, some people are worried about fitting. The tailor fits his kurta-pajama in half an hour. Mohammad Rashid said that for leadership, people are preferring plain, especially white cotton and half length kurta and Aligarhi pajama.
Cup kurta is being liked by the youth
Kurta specialist tailor master said that with elections approaching, it is natural for the stitching of kurta-pajama to increase. Earlier people used to prefer plain kurta without cups. Youth like kurta with cup only. This cup kurta is not plain like a shirt but is buttoned near the arm. Linen kurta is liked not only by youth but also by old leaders. Another tailor told that earlier people used to prefer thick Khaddar kurta, but now they are preferring the designed kurta, in which Pathani design kurta. Salauddin said that both cloth and stitching are possible for Rs 600 to Rs 1000. Stitching of kurta-pajama costs up to Rs 350. Whereas earlier the tailor had to make two to four sets of kurta-pajama, now he has to make five to eight sets of kurta-pajama.
Youth are liking Khadi Bandi, sales of Gandhi cap increased
Mayakant Jha, administrator of Khadi Village Industries Association, said that kurta made of khadi cloth made of handloom is now liked only by some old leaders. Most of the leaders are now wearing kurta, but power loom made linen clothes or half length kurta. Yes, now the sale of Gandhi cap has increased, which is available for Rs 80.
