Lok Sabha Election 2024: In a letter to the Union Cabinet Secretary and Chief Secretaries of all states and union territories, the Commission said that despite issuing a letter with the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha elections on March 16, it received a complaint. That such advertisements have not been removed.

It is noteworthy that Congress had recently raised this issue before the Commission. After which the Election Commission has taken action and issued orders to the state governments. The Commission on Wednesday directed state and union territory governments to remove unauthorized political advertisements from government, public and private properties and send compliance reports by 5 pm on Thursday. The Commission said that it has taken a serious view of non-compliance or partial-compliance with its instructions.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has removed a total of 60,587 ‘posters’, ‘banners’, ‘hoardings’ and small boards from all its 12 areas in view of the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the Lok Sabha elections 2024. The civic body has removed the maximum number of 12,143 posters from its Shahadara North area. After this, 11,680 posters were removed from Shahdara South area and 4,359 posters from South area.

The Election Commission on Saturday announced the dates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on March 16. Immediately after which the Model Code of Conduct came into force which will remain in force till the election results are declared. According to the rules of the election office, any kind of poster, ‘hoarding’ or ‘banner’ in a public place, which promotes any political party or leader, will have to be removed within 24 hours of the announcement of the election schedule.
